Baby its Cold Outside

Hot Chocolate

With winter getting started and the holiday season in full swing, now is the perfect time to take a break and enjoy a hot beverage. My favorite warm drink is hot chocolate because it’s comforting, relaxing, and keeps you toasty in the cold. But I want to know:

What’s your favorite warm beverage?

Living now in Spain, my favorite hot beverage is the “carajillo quemado”. Quite sweet and sometimes really strong in cognac, it warms you a bit too much for the nice spanish winter!;)
First, mix a spoon of sugar with an ounce or more of cognag.add lemon skin(sorry i dont know the right name in english),a few grain of coffee.some put cardamon or cinamon pieces. And then you need to “quemar”/burn the cognac!put fire and whisk with a spoon for 2 min.if the fire stop put it again.last step, espresso coffee!

I love chai when it’s cold out.

Emmanuelle, that sounds lovely! I learned about hot cocoa with chile spices in Mexico years ago on a school trip, I like the chocolate less sweet, and just add chiles, maybe a little cinnamon, very warming on a cold night!

Hailing from snowy Boston Proper, I’ve tolerated the cold just so that I could enjoy a toddy or my personal winter warmer, a Tom and Jerry cocktail. In Boston, we’d only be able to drink this when there was snow on the ground (which isn’t hard to find come December – February).

I loved to sit at the bar at Eastern Standard and have Jackson or Naomi whip these up with their natural flair.

I’m unsure of their recipe, but here’s mine!

    1 Egg.
    1/2 Glass Smith & Cross
    1 Tablespoon cane sugar
    1/2 Glass Armagnac
Beat egg yolk and whites separated, then mix the yolk, and white together. Add spirits and eggs to a glass mug, top with hot water and grated nutmeg.

I am really becoming a fan of Chai Tea Latte. But nothing beats a good beer while grilling outside.
