What is your all-time favorite recipe from your blog?
I’m going to share two since I can’t pick between a sweet or a savory. My favorite sweet recipe is my Saffron Almond Cake with Peaches and Plums and my favorite savory recipe is my Chestnut, Bacon & Green Apple Soup.
If you had to blog about one ingredient every day for a year, what food it be?
Bread in all its many incarnations. And I would finish out the year happy and zaftig.
What is your favorite restaurant and what do you order there?
Ilili in NYC. It’s this gorgeous, upscale Lebanese restaurant with the most incredible menu. My favorites are the beef fried kibbeh, mekanek (sauteed lamb sausage), and brussels sprouts with fig puree to start; the lamb & bastirma burger on a fresh pita roll with a side of batata harra dusted in aleppo pepper for my main; and the warm and gooey date cake served with silky Lebanese ice cream for dessert. I also always get the same cocktail. It’s called From Beirut with Passion and is an intoxicating blend of basil, mint, and cilantro infused vodka mixed with sparkling passion fruit juice. It’s so fragrant that I literally hold it up to my face just breathing in the aroma for about a minute before taking my first sip.
I will never eat:
What’s your go-to quick and easy dinner?
Fish tacos! I use whatever kind of firm white fish is on sale and cut it into small pieces, then dust with a bit of flour, salt, cayenne, and smoked paprika. They take just a few minutes to pan fry and I serve them on soft corn tortillas with sliced red onions, diced tomatoes, fresh cilantro, and a quick sauce made from Greek-style yogurt, lime juice, and ground cumin. If I have tomatoes or avocados in the fruit basket, I’ll dice them up and add them too. Such a quick, fresh meal, and always incredibly satisfying.
