Many medical experts talked about the high cost of eating poorly. Heidi Blanck, PhD, chief of obesity prevention at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, reminded people that 17 percent of children are considered obese and one in three is overweight or obese. She singled out sodas and sugary drinks as “the largest source of added calories for our youth.”
