What was the inspiration for the name of your blog?
When I first started my blog, I sat down and thought about what I wanted to get out of it. Was it just a place to gather all of my recipes? Or was I trying to achieve something beyond that? What it came down to was that I wanted to help the home cook find a simple way to make great meals for themselves and for their family.

What is your all-time favorite recipe from your blog?
Definitely a hard question, but two recipes seem to stick out in my mind. My Tempting Tempeh Sandwich, which was Tempeh on a ciabatta roll with Fig Balsamic Marinated Mushrooms and Goat Cheese Pesto. The other recipe I absolutely love is for Go FIGure – Fig and Goat Cheese Tortelloni with Brown Butter Sage Sauce. Both are winners in my book!

What is the first meal you ever cooked?
I’m known for having a terrible memory, but I think when I first really started to take an interest in cooking, I made goat cheese and sun-dried tomato pizza, or fajitas. Both were absolute favorites of mine back in the day. I would spend a long time garnishing my dishes before serving them to my family. They always say you eat with your eyes first, so I had to be sure my dish looked good enough to eat.

If you had to blog about one ingredient every day for a year, what food it be?
It would have to be an ingredient that is quite versatile. Something that could be used both in savory and sweet dishes. That being said, I would have to go with butternut squash.

I will never eat:
Meat. Being that I was raised a Vegetarian, I don’t have any plans on changing.

What is your favorite restaurant and what do you order there?
I have a few favorite restaurants, depending on which city I’m in. One restaurant that absolutely blew me away was The Kitchen Restaurant in Sacramento. My dining experience there was nothing short of amazing. The guests are welcome to roam the entire restaurant, including the kitchen. You have the pleasure of actually standing next to the talented chefs creating your meal. The meal I enjoyed at The Kitchen was by far the most amazing food I’ve ever eaten in my life.

What other blogs, food or otherwise, do you read regularly?
I have a giant list of blogs and websites that I follow regularly. Here are a few: Smitten Kitchen, Closet Cooking, Chubby Vegetarian, Veganize It…Don’t Criticize It! and a ton more!

When you’re not blogging about food or cooking, what other activities do you do?
Food and cooking are my life. So, most of the time, I’m either cooking, researching food products, at the farmer’s market, or reading cookbooks and blogs. But there are times I do enjoy hiking, going to story-telling shows like The Moth, and just spending time with friends and family.

Is there a food you used to hate, but now love?
I used to loathe olives, beets and mustard. I am now completely addicted to all three!

If you were trapped on a desert island with only five ingredients, what would you pick?
Let’s start by saying, I hope I’m never trapped on a desert island. But if I had to be trapped with only five ingredients, I would go with bananas, oatmeal, tofu, dark chocolate and almonds. Those are probably the five foods I’ll never get sick of.

What is your current food fix?
Currently, I have a small obsession with kabocha squash. I could eat it for every meal of the day! One of my favorite ways to eat kabocha squash is to toss it with a little maple syrup and roast it in the oven. Delish!
