Today, according to Roaming Hunger’s Ross Resnick— the sensei of food truck knowledge— around 125 gourmet food trucks cruise the streets of Los Angeles. Local LA restaurant owners are so overwhelmed by the food truck craze they’ve begun parking cars in the trucks’ usual lunch spots all day, absorbing the parking fines, in hopes of pushing the trucks elsewhere. Local politicians are even trying to slow down the proliferation. Similarly, in New York, legitimate gang-like turf battles have ensued on busy blocks.
